How to get faster WiFi at home with WiFi 6
Thorsten Kurpjuhn, Wireless Market Development Manager Europe at Zyxel, explains why the new NBG7510 entry-level, 802.11ax router can give users a much better WiFi experience on every device throughout the household.
Do you need faster WiFi at home? If this question has even occurred to you, the answer is ‘yes’. Even if it hasn’t, you may benefit from upgrading to the very latest 801.11ax standard – or WiFI 6 as it is also known – as it will give you faster connections and more consistent performance for all users.
Why might you need better WiFi? There are all kinds of reasons. We are all connecting more devices to WiFi – for entertainment and to make use of online services. We are all using richer content as well – watching high-definition movies, downloading music and podcasts, and making conferencing calls.
Smooth, consistent and reliable
In most homes and small offices, the wireless technology currently in use will be 802.11ac – or WiFi 5. This is really good, and it will give most people the throughput they need – most of the time. In some, older wireless technology may still be in use. This will still work, of course, but it’s not going to give you the performance you really need. And if you are going to upgrade – from WiFi 5 or older technology, you might as well upgrade to the very latest standard – to get the best performance, and future-proof your investment.
There are also times when WiFi 5 – good as it is – might not deliver the kind of speed and throughput you’d really like – especially when multiple devices are connected, as if often case in homes today. When this happens, performance can start to drop-off. You might experience interference and delays. Video or audio may be lost or frozen for a few seconds, which is not ideal if you are enjoying a movie, or you are in the middle of a conference call. This is why a lot of people are upgrading to WiFi 6. The new standard is about 40% faster and provides a much smoother, consistent and reliable connectivity for all connections. This means that you will never experience those jittery breaks in connectivity that you might occasionally have with WiFi and earlier wireless technologies.
No turning back
Sometimes, you have to experience something new before you realise just how much better it is; this is certainly the case with WiFi 6. Once you have tried it, you won’t want to go back. Nor should you. All new devices coming out now will support the new standard, so as you upgrade your notebooks, PCs, smartphones, TVs and other devices, it makes sense to also upgrade your router.
When you do that, you won’t want to spend more than you really need to in order to get the best possible performance and our new NBG7510 router is the perfect choice for most households that want to upgrade to WiFi 6. The NBG7510 is a very simple, entry-level 802.11ax router, designed specifically for use in the home. It comes with four antennas (two each for 2.5GHz and 5GHz) and supports speeds of up to 1200 Mbps and its available at a very affordable price.
