ZyXEL to Ship New Prestige 630-11 and Prestige 630-13 ADSL USB Modems in Mid April

New Modems Support Annex A and B, and Provide Cost Competitive, Trouble-Free, High Speed Internet Access for Home Offices and Residential Users

Hsinchu, April 3, 2002 -- ZyXEL Communications Co., (TAI: 2391.TW) a pioneer manufacturer and supplier of DSL customer premises equipment (CPE), today announced its new Prestige 630-11and the Prestige-13 ADSL USB modems.

Incorporating Alcatel's new generation chipset, the newly announced Prestige 630-11 and the Prestige 630-13 are pocket-sized external USB ADSL modems which combine the super-fast speed of ADSL technology with the ease of setup and operation facilitated by the Plug and Play USB interface.

Complying with both G.DMT (ITU-T G.992.1) and G.Lite (G.992.2) standards, the Prestige 630-11 and the 630-13 are interoperable with major Central Office DSLAM equipment. They deliver ultra-fast downstream transmission speeds of up to 8Mbps and upstream speeds of up to 832Kbps, and are ideal for laptop users with pocket and bus-powered design. The Prestige 630-11 and 630-13 support Windows 98/2000 and WinME, and can be driver upgraded.

The Prestige 630-11 and 630-13 will make ADSL deployment much easier with their PPPoE (PPP over Ethernet, which will be available in March). PPPoE preserves the existing dialup scenario to better facilitate more widespread ADSL usage for users and service providers.

The Prestige 630-11 and the 630-13 also offer protocol encapsulation support, including Multi-protocol over AAL5 (RFC1483), PPP over ATM AAL5 (RFC2364).

Availability
The Prestige 630-11 supports ADSL over POTS lines while the Prestige 630-13 supports ADSL over ISDN for regions that have a substantial install base of ISDN customers. The Prestige 630-11 is scheduled to be available in April 8 and the Prestige 630-13 will be available in April 12.
