ZyXEL Releases World's First Anti-Virus ADSL 2+ Gateway

Prestige 662HW offers fast, secured wired and wireless network to SOHO with integrated router, switch, access point, anti-virus engine, firewall and VPN functionalities.

(Hsinchu, March 10, 2004)ZyXEL Communications (TSE:2391), world's leading broadband access solutions provider, today unveils the world's first ADSL 2+ gateway with anti-virus capability built-in. The Prestige 662HW responds to the latest user demand on SOHO Guard and Media Session Routing Technology (MSRT), and empowers the SOHO users to enjoy value-added broadband multimedia service via secured networks.

With the announcement of Prestige 662HW, the bar of ADSL gateway products has been raised; such as the adoption of latest ADSL 2+ technology, 802.11g+ WLAN support and detachable 5dBi antenna for faster transmission while extending the wireless coverage. With the powerful platform and ZyXEL's latest "Zero Configuration" mechanism, Prestige 662HW is bound to lead the pack by providing SOHO users with faster connection, longer wireless range, and more secured networking environment.

As for security control, Prestige 662HW features a multi-function security infrastructure that covers anti-virus, firewall, and VPN protection to fulfill SOHO security needs. Alongside, Prestige 662HW can be managed by ZyXEL's Vantage CNM (Vantage Centralized Network Management), which performs remote configuration, administration, monitoring, and troubleshooting tasks to reduce the required maintenance and support efforts.

"Relentless virus attacks have become the center of frustration for most businesses," says Albert Ju, Assistant Vice President of ZyXEL's CPE Product Division. "Since most viruses are from Internet nowadays, anti-virus built-in gateway can perform an easier and cost-effective way comparing to traditional anti-virus installed in personal computers. Since Prestige 662HW meets the needs of today's SOHO users and can update its virus signatures automatically, it is capable of tackling the latest viruses and worms before they infiltrate the network, thus preventing serious loss from the attacks."

The firewall of Prestige 662HW bolsters Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI), Denial of Service (DoS), IP & Packet Filtering, Content Filtering and Email Alert supports, and provides 20 IPSec VPN channels for home users to establish secured connections with the office network.

In case of ADSL connection break-up, the fail-over and auto fall-back function of Prestige 662HW will step in and redirect the network traffic to the external ISDN TA or modem for dial backup, or reconnect to the Internet through other routers on the LAN.

Prestige 662HW supports the latest MSRT technologies like SIP routing, as well as easy bandwidth management and friendly interface for today's multimedia applications. In addition, the combination of Ethernet VLAN and multiple VPI/VCI sets also make Prestige 662HW the best media platform for services from service providers.

Availability
Prestige 662HW will make its debut at ZyXEL's booth (Hall 15 D05) in Hannover CeBIT taking place in March 18-24 2004. The product will be available in April, aiming at worldwide Internet service providers.
