ZyXEL Introduces Prestige 650 Series ADSL Router for SOHO and SMB

Hsinchu, July 10, 2002 -- ZyXEL Communications Co., (TAI: 2391.TW), a leading broadband access solution provider, today announced the immediate availability of its latest ADSL router, the Prestige 650R series. The Prestige 650s new compact design, value-added features, along with the ease of usage and manageability, making it an ideal solution for small networks connecting to the Internet via ADSL.

Multiple-flavor ADSL Standard
The Prestige 650 series supports the Multi-mode ADSL standards, which offers auto-sensing between Full-rate and G.Lite standards according to the Central office switch or DSLAM (Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplier)

Designed for high-speed Internet browsing and LAN-to-LAN connections to remote networks, the Prestige 650 series can run maximum downstream transmission rates of up to 8Mbps and maximum upstream transmission rates of 832 Kbps. The Prestige 650 series is compatible with the products manufacture by major ADSL DSLAM providers.

10/100M Auto-negotiation Ethernet/Fast Ethernet Interface
The Prestige 650 series combines a high-speed 10/100Mbps auto-negotiating LAN interface and a high-speed ADSL port into a single package. This auto-negotiation feature allows the Prestige to detect the speed of incoming transmissions and adjust appropriately without manual intervention.

Built-In PPPoE Feature
Incorporating ZyXEL's first-in-the-world PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet, RFC 2516) implementation, the Prestige 650 series enables both the users and the service providers to make use of the existing PPP/PAP/CHAP based authentication and accounting infrastructure. Built-in PPPoE features save time by eliminating the need to install software.

Ease of Use and Management
For quick, intuitive and easy installation, the Prestige 650 series is pre-configured with a service provider's settings which allows the product to be installed automatically and works with an ADSL connection without any manual configuration.

The Prestige 650 series is also easy to configure. All functions of the Prestige are software configurable via the SMT (System Management Terminal) and web configurator. Advanced users may configure the Prestige using CLI (Command Line Interface) commands. These features dramatically reduce the capital and deployment costs for service providers and system integrators, creating a low cost, easy to deploy solution.

Availability
Available now, the Prestige 650 series include the Prestige 650R-11 and the Prestige 650R-13. The Prestige 650R-11 supports ADSL over POTS lines while the Prestige 650R-13 supports ADSL over ISDN for regions that have a substantial install base of ISDN customers.
