ZyXEL Introduces 10/100M Fast Ethernet Internet Access Router for the High Performance SOHO Networking

The New Prestige 202 Makes Multi-user Internet Access Easy through an Integrated 128 Kbps ISDN Connection

Hsinchu, August 23, 1999 - Continuing to deliver easy-to-use Internet Access solutions for the SOHO markets, ZyXEL Communications Corporation today announced its 10/100M Ethernet LAN port router to its award-winning Prestige family of products. With the new Prestige 202, all communications for the LAN are carried over a single ISDN line, providing users with speeds of up to 128Kbps Internet access.

With its smart combination of features extended from the Prestige 100 series, ZyXEL's new Prestige 202 router provides several new designs that makes it easy for both Home and SOHO to easily share a single high-speed ISDN line to the Internet. Better yet, the Prestige 202 is equipped with a full-duplex auto-sensing 10/100M Ethernet LAN port which significantly improves the performance of local area networking. The dual analog port design of the Prestige 202 also supports connection of two analog devices such as fax machines or analog phones over digital ISDN lines, as well as the most complete supplementary phone services and caller ID support on POTS.

"As the trend toward the Internet and working at home continues to rise, SOHO users demand cost-effective and high-performance Internet Access Solutions," said Tony Hsu, the Director of Product Marketing & Management at ZyXEL. "The new generation of Prestige 202 series demonstrates ZyXEL's commitment to offer our customers a better solution to Internet access, and we are constantly adding unique features to our products with leading-edge technologies for today's fast-changing network environment."

Unprecedented Connectivity Features
The Prestige 202 features ZyXEL's innovative Single User Account (SUA), which permits unlimited LAN users to access the Internet simultaneously with one single IP address as well as supports applications such as NetMeeting, CUSeeMe, IRC, RealPlayer, and ICQ. With SUA and dynamic IP address assignment, ZyXEL's Multiple Single User Account allows access to the Internet and a corporation's network simultaneously using only one address for each connection. In addition, the Prestige 202's Bandwidth-On-Demand (BOD) features provide users with broad flexibility options on dial-up or release to a second line.

Easy Configuration, Management and Security
Designed for the non-technical users, the Prestige 202 is easy to manage and configure via ZyXEL's new Prestige Network Commander (PNC), a Windows-based tool that provides a simple wizard-like interface which guides users through every step of the installation. Furthermore, the Prestige 202 can be managed through a menu-driven user interface which provides network management either locally or remotely via a Telnet connection.

The Prestige 202's ability to act as a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server enables it to automatically assign IP addresses to each computer logging onto the LAN, thus avoiding the time and complexity of individual configuration.

Availability The U interface Prestige 202, with North American switch type support such as NI1, DMS-100, AT&T 5ESS, is scheduled to be available in August 1999; while the S/T Interface model, with European DSS1 switch type support, will be available by September.
