ZyXEL Expands ADSL Family with The New Prestige 630 ADSL USB Modem

New Modem Provides a Pocket-sized, Trouble-Free, High Speed Internet Access for Home Offices and Residential Users

Hsinchu, Taiwan, March 14, 2000 -- ZyXEL Communications Co., (TAI: 2391.TW) a pioneer manufacturer and supplier of DSL customer premises equipment (CPE), today announced immediate availability of its new Prestige 630 ADSL USB modem.

ZyXEL's newly announced Prestige 630 is an external USB ADSL modem which combines the super-fast speed of ADSL technology with the ease of setup and operation facilitated by a Plug and Play USB interface. Complying with both G.DMT (ITU-T G.992.1) and G.Lite (G.992.2) standards, the Prestige 630 is interoperable with major Central Office DSLAM equipment. It delivers ultra-fast downstream transmission speeds of up to 8Mbps and upstream speeds of up to 1024Kbps, and is ideal for laptop users with pocket and bus-powered design. The Prestige 630 supports Windows 98/2000, WinME and Mac OS, and can be firmware upgraded.

"DSL service providers will favor the Prestige 630 for its factory-installed settings and simple installation, which greatly reduce their technical support cost and effort. In addition, the standard USB interface enables hassle-free, instant connectivity to the PC or laptop, hence eliminating installation challenges for non-technical users."

The Prestige 630 will make ADSL deployment much easier with its PPPoE (PPP over Ethernet, which will be available in the near future). PPPoE preserves the existing dialup scenario to better facilitate more widespread ADSL usage for users and service providers.

The Prestige 630 also offers other protocol encapsulation support, including Multi-protocol over AAL5 (RFC1483), PPP over ATM AAL5 (RFC2364) and Classical IP over ATM (RFC1577).

Available now, ZyXEL's Prestige 630 can be purchased through ZyXEL's worldwide sales networks, including directly from the company and through company's service provider partners.
