ZyXEL Announces ZyAIR Line of Wireless Networking Products

New ZyAIR 802.11b Product Line Targets Home and Small Office Networking Market with Market-Leading Performance and Powerful Enterprise-Class Security

Hsinchu, Taiwan, November 5, 2002 -- ZyXEL Communications Co. (TAI:2391.TW), an innovator and leading provider of broadband access solutions, today announced the ZyAIR family of 802.11b Wireless LAN (WLAN) solutions, which includes a Wireless gateway with 4-port switch, an Access Point (AP), a PC Card, a PCI Card, a USB Adapter and an Ethernet Adapter.

Designed for the booming residential and small office networking markets, ZyAIR improves 802.11b network performance and security to levels previously unseen in the mass market. With superior reach and multi-user performance, ZyAIR is the new standard in wireless networking. ZyAIR's security architecture is based on the IEEE 802.1x standard for wireless networks. IEEE 802.1x uses Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) services, which provide more secure authentication than simply verifying user names and passwords. Working in conjunction with a remote access server such as a RADIUS server, ZyAIR provides centralized, user-based authentication and single-user, single-session encryption keys.

The ZyAIR B-2000 Wireless LAN Gateway with 4-port Switch and ZyAIR B-1000 Access Point
The ZyAIR B-2000 is a broadband router with an 802.11b Wi-Fi (wireless fidelity) certified Access Point and Internet sharing functionality. A built-in 4-port 10/100 Fast Ethernet switch allows offices with existing wired networks to share high-speed DSL/Cable connections. The ZyAIR B-1000 is a stand-alone Access Point, delivering a low cost wireless connection for sharing existing broadband services.

Each unit is equipped with two omni-directional 2dBi antennas to provide a clear radio signal between the wireless stations and the access points. The units also feature specially designed status LEDs for at-a-glance diagnostics.

Developed for ease of installation and flexible deployment, both the ZyAIR B-1000 and ZyAir B-2000 can be easily setup and managed through an auto-run setup wizard and a convenient web-based configurator. Desk and wall-mounting options allow for additional units to be incorporated into a wireless network for an overall increased coverage area.
