ZyXEL Announces Prestige 652HW Integrated ADSL Router

Combining ADSL, Firewall, and Wireless LAN, ZyXEL's new Prestige 652HW offers a secured wireless LAN solution designed for small- and mid-sized companies

Hsinchu, Taiwan, July 1, 2003 -- ZyXEL (TSE: 2391) today debuts its Prestige 652HW high-end ADSL router aiming for small- and mid-sized businesses. Prestige 652HW integrates the functions of ADSL router, powerful firewall, Virtual Private Network (VPN), Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN), and a 4-port switch into a single enclosure. For the smaller offices calling for an affordable, simple, and secured WLAN solution, the ZyXEL Prestige 652HW is the way to go.

"Prestige 652W is currently our most highly-integrated product in CPE line, thus providing the Service Provider's the convenience of one-stop shopping," said Albert Ju, Assistant Vice President of CPE Business Unit at ZyXEL. "In the meantime, Prestige 652HW can be configured, managed, monitored, and troubleshot remotely through Vantage, ZyXEL's Central Network Management system; which effectively minimizes the future maintenance complexity as well as the cost of the supporting staff."

With its leading firewall expertise, ZyXEL empowered Prestige 652HW with rock-solid firewall features, separating it from other ADSL routers that offer only minimalist security capabilities. ZyNOS, the ICSA-certified firewall operating platform of Prestige 652HW, provides extensive firewall functions such as Stateful Packet Inspection and Denial of Service (DoS) protection.

Aside from the security features, Prestige 652HW also supports IPSec (Internet Protocol Security) VPN (Virtual Private Network). Compared with other ADSL routers using software for acceleration, Prestige 652HW employs ASIC DES/3DES accelerator that significantly enhances VPN performance.

Furthermore, Prestige 652HW boasts Bandwidth Management capability only previously available to high-end routers, hence the QoS (Quality of Service) assured. When ADSL service fails, the "Fail-over and fail-back" function of Prestige 652HW would come alive, and re-route the network traffic to either a back ISDN TA or analog modem, or reconnects to the Internet via other routers on the LAN.

With a built-in WLAN slot, Prestige 652HW may incorporate ZyXEL's ZyAIR WLAN PC Card to make 802.11b wireless network available to its users. Since its WLAN function supports IEEE 802.1x user authentication, the data transmitted wirelessly is also kept clear from prying eyes.

In contrast to its powerful capabilities, the installation of Prestige 652HW is simple and foolproof. ZyXEL's multi-language Web wizard will guide user to complete setup and configuration in English, German, and French.
