Hsinchu, Taiwan, May 30, 2001 -- ZyXEL Communications Co., (TAI: 2391.TW) a pioneer manufacturer and supplier of DSL customer premise equipment (CPE), today announced Internet content filtering enhancements to its ZyWALL Internet Security Gateway product line.

Internet content filtering allows homes, schools and businesses to establish and enforce acceptable Internet access policies tailored to their needs. Built-in Internet Content Filtering enables the ZyWALL to block certain Website features, as well as monitor and control users to visit improper or nonproductive Web content.

ZyXEL's ZyWALL content filtering solution is based on the widely accepted CyberNOT List from Cyber Patrol. It is easy to install, manage, and keep up to date, hence making it an ideal solution for Internet security.

* Categorized URL Access Control
The new ZyWALL provides categorized Content Filter List, which allows administrators to select categories, such as pornography or racial intolerance, to block or monitor from a pre-defined list. Registering the ZyWALL allows network administrators to install and activate the Content Filter List, and to receive a free subscription to updated Content Filter Lists for six months. After this period, Content Filter List is available by annual subscription.

* URL Keyword Blocking
The ZyWALL can also be configured to block certain Websites by using URL keywords. For example, if the keyword "nude" was enabled, all URLs containing this keyword will be blocked, even if it was not included in the Content Filter List. This functions as a second line of defense against objectionable material.

* URL Filter List Customization
This feature allows the Content Filter List to be customized by adding or removing specific sites from the filter list. Network administrators can specify trusted domains which access is allowed, or Forbidden Domains which access is denied.

* ActiveX, Java Applet, Cookies, and Web Proxy Blocking
The ZyWALL can block web features such as ActiveX controls, Java applets, cookies as well as disable web proxies which may pose a security or privacy risk on the Internet.

* Blocking by Time of Day
The ZyWALL also allows the administrator to define time periods and days during which content filtering should be enabled.

* Exempt Zone
The exempt zone allows the administrator to include or exclude a range of users on the LAN from content filtering.

* Log Screen
The log screen records the results of your content filter policies.
