ZoneDAS One provides 5G option for places that are hard to reach

Patrick Hirscher, EMEA Wireless Market Development Manager at Zyxel, is excited about the latest addition to Zyxel’s ZoneDAS range, which provides 5G support for even faster and more reliable connections in places that cellular signals find it difficult or impossible to reach.

You may have read one of my previous blogs about our ZoneDAS solution, which makes it possible to provide good mobile signals in areas where that would otherwise be problematic. The classic examples are shopping malls, car parks, sports arenas, or other large buildings that have multiple floors (and maybe a basement too) and are constructed in such a way that makes it almost impossible for mobile signals to penetrate inside.

This is a surprisingly common challenge. Using ZoneDAS, you can provide good mobile signals in places that can’t be reached by the network. They have proved to be extremely popular with sales growing strongly over the last couple of years.

Fast connection

The “DAS” in ZoneDAS, by the way, stands for “distributed antenna system”– sometimes also called “active DAS”. It works by positioning a signal relaying device on each floor or at key locations around the building. These provide localised cellular coverage and are linked through a physical, cabled connection (fibre or copper) to an external arial that provides a fast connection out to the mobile networks.

We are now introducing a version – called ZoneDAS One – that supports 5G, making this an even more attractive option for places where people have problems picking up a mobile signal. I am sure you know all about the increased speed that 5G provides, and as more networks roll-out 5G coverage and more smartphones that support 5G come into use, it’s going to become increasingly important to support this technology.

Other ZoneDAS solutions that support 4G/LTE will continue to be available for customers that only need to provide support at the already impressive speeds this technology offers.

Rising expectations

But the technology and needs of users will always keep on developing and changing – and as user expectations rise, it’s more important than ever to keep up. 5G is the future and customers and partners have been asking us for about a version of ZoneDAS that would support 5G for a while.

We are pretty excited that it has now arrived here in Europe. We expect ZoneDAS One will soon become a popular choice. If you’d like to learn more about it, please get in touch with your Zyxel partner or your local Zyxel office.
