ZyXEL's Previews ZyWALL Security Appliances with Powerful Protection and Centralized Management

Hsinchu, March 16, 2004 -- ZyXEL Communications (TSE:2391), world's leading broadband access solution provider, today unveils its latest Internet Security Appliances: ZyWALL 70/35/5 Series. These latest firewall devices boast new robust housing, intuitive GUI, and feature high performance hardware platform as well as security-enhanced ZyNOS firewall platform that offer maximum protection to SMB and small office networks.

The robust, multifunctional security features of ZyWALL series have been integrated on the latest ICSA-certified ZyXEL ZyNOS platform, which includes comprehensive Stateful Packet Inspection, (Distributed) Denial of Service (DoS/DDoS), dynamic Web Content Filtering, Bandwidth Management, IPSec VPN, etc. Rock-solid AES encryption has been employed for VPN security, in addition to DES/3DES and PKI security schemes encrypted by private and public keys, to ensure the privacy of the financial and information transactions, along with the accuracy of personal identities.

The latest ZyWALL 70 and 35 support a dual-WAN port design, which offers three major benefits to users:

1. If WAN 1 happens to fail, the WAN2 port can be used as Auto Fail Over & Fail Back to ensure Internet access High Availability.
2. The dual-WAN port of ZyWALL 70 gives the administrator the liberty to assign the dataflow to run through WAN1 or WAN2, according to packet priority or bandwidth required.
3. As a free upgrade in the third quarter of 2004, the administrators are able to engage active load-balancing between WAN1 and WAN2.

In addition, the Firewall Bridge mode can be employed on any node requiring enhanced security with benefits like Plug-&-Play and zero routing configurations. This capability will come with ZyWALL 5 at the end of the second quarter, and will be available to ZyWALL 70/50 as a free firmware upgrade in the third quarter.

ZyWALL 70 offers four concurrent DMZ (De-Militarized Zone) ports, sufficient for common outgoing corporate servers like Web, mail, FTP, etc.; and ZyWALL 35 and ZyWALL 5 both have four flexible ports for LAN or DMZ assignment, enabling great versatility to the SMB's resource allocations.

For wireless network environments, ZyWALL 70/35/5 provides an Access Point expansion slot on the back panel. The current version supports 802.11b WLAN standard, and 802.11g standard compatibility is expected in the second quarter of 2004. Naturally, ZyWALL 70 also features WLAN security measures, such as WPA, IEEE 802.1X authentication with RADIUS client, as well as IPSec VPN over WLAN.

The new ZyWALL Series can be managed via the newly-revised Vantage CNM (Centralized Network Management), with which administrators engage the system configuration, management, control, trouble-shooting, and configure and monitor the status of the VPN, which dramatically reduces the maintenance complexity and support costs. Aside from simplifying administration chores, Vantage CNM also works well with the emerging MSSP (Managed Security Service Provider) services. What's more, the ZyWALL Series even supports HTTPS, SSH, and SFTP protocols during the remote session to enforce the absolute discretion of the data exchanged.

"Comparing to other similar products, ZyWALL demonstrates the most favorable implementation cost and TCO/ROI.," said Felix Chang, Product Marketing Director of ZyXEL's Network Security & Appliance Division. "Except the unlimited user nodes, ZyWALL provides multi-functional security without requiring users to pay additional license fee. Future firmware will also be provided free of charge, and its intuitive, centralized configuration and management allow SMBs to implement secured, efficient network protection with significantly lower support cost."

Availability
Available now, the ZyWALL 70 can be ordered via ZyXEL's global sales network of system integrators and value-added resellers, and ZyWALL 5/35 will start shipping in the second quarter. To find a ZyXEL distributor nearest your location, please consult: http://www.zyxel.com/wherebuy/index.php.
