ZyXEL Releases World's First Palm-Sized Portable Personal Firewall for Ultimate Security

ZyWALL P1 Pushes Network Security to the End-point PCs with Minimum Administration Effort

Hsinchu, Taiwan, March 8, 2005--ZyXEL Communications (TSE:2391), world's leading broadband access solutions provider, today unveils its ZyWALL P1, the world's first palm-sized portable personal firewall, at CeBIT (Hall 15, C05). The ZyWALL P1 is very easy to install and manage centrally by administrators to enforce corporate security policies. With the powerful functions of ZyWALL P1, the IT staff can reinforce end-point security on business travelers or telecommuters.

"Learning from recent information security incidents, we've realized that the major source of network threats has turn from external attacks to internal contamination." Says Albert Lee, Senior Product Manager of ZyXEL's Network Security and Applications Division. "All kinds of network attacks or threats can slip into the corporate network and its workstations by way of employees' portable computers, which could have been infected at home or during business trips. To address this issue, ZyXEL developed the portable ZyWALL P1 for individual users to gate-keeping their network connection and prevent the corporate network from being infected. It also helps network administrators to enforce the security policy on every endpoint PC."

Lee also points out that personal firewall is currently the only effective solution to enhance user-end network security, and hardware-based, software-independent firewalls can prevent software installation conflict, or errors from operator interaction. The plug-and-play ZyWALL P1 can save network administrators considerable time and cost spent on troubleshooting software problems.

ZyWALL P1 is an extremely compact and portable device of only 5-inch in length, 3-inch in width and it weights only 130g. It boasts a WAN port and a LAN port, and can be powered by the USB port for additional convenience. The tiny ZyWALL P1 is large in performance: ICSA-certified firewall with 90Mbps throughput, as well as comprehensive SPI, DoS/DDoS and Access Control features. ZyWALL P1 also provide an ICSA-certified IPSec VPN tunnel with hardware-accelerated DES/3DES/AES encryption of up to 34Mbps throughput.

ZyWALL P1 is scheduled to support ZyXEL Vantage CNM centralized network management through a recent firmware upgrade in the second quarter, which enables administrators to employ the policy enforcer for ensuring the remote employee computers to comply to security policies before entering the corporate network. On the other hand, the Vantage CNM can also helps the IT staff to manage scattered ZyWALL P1s and handle the situation when computers are being attacked.

ZyWALL P1 allows administrators to deploy numerous units without altering network settings. Even installed by unskilled users, the ZyWALL P1 can get up and running easily. To enterprises with mobile business needs, easy deployment and management are just part of ZyWALL P1's advantages to maintain a healthy corporate network in the most effortless way.
