ZyXEL GS-2724 features 1U-height, 19-inch rack-mount design. The GS-2724 comes with 24 standard 100/1000 RJ-45 ports, including 4 dual-personality GbE interfaces (100/1000Mbps RJ-45 ports or SFP open slots). The GS-2724 enables 48Gbps non-blocking switching fabric at a 35.7 million packet-per-second forwarding rate and wire-speed performance to deliver high performance network.

As "Triple Play" multimedia applications become commonplace, ZyXEL GS-2724 has been loaded with powerful QoS and VLAN functions to ensure smooth operation. ZyXEL GS-2724 comes with valued-added features that optimize traffic prioritization for services like VoIP, video conferencing and streaming in business environments; while quality of time-sensitive applications is ensured by eight orchestrated priority queues and the WRR/SPQ scheduling algorithm. Moreover, different services can be assigned to specific VLANs and configured with different priorities for traffic management.

ZyXEL GS-2724 also comes with robust security design. With Multi-layer ACL that provides L2/L3/L4 indicators for network traffic policies, the GS-2724 is capable of stringent protection. Intrusion Lock deters intruder while MAC freeze, static MAC forwarding and MAC filtering performs additional protection. 802.1Q VLAN separates traffics into different virtual LANs to protect business-critical information, and 802.1x further facilitates the assignment of VLAN as well as bandwidth allocation.

ZyXEL GS-2724 supports ZyXEL's iStacking clustered administration technology that enables them to search and connect to other iStacking-capable ZyXEL switches.
