Why multi-gig speeds can be just as important for security as performance

In networking, we tend to think of higher speeds being all about improving performance and reducing latency, but in the modern network – and especially ones in which you might have key people working remotely at home much of the time – security is another reason you would need the additional bandwidth.

If detailed, real-time checking and monitoring of traffic is being conducted right across the network, there is going to be a bandwidth implication. If busy executives are working at home, they may need to run a VPN, which will use up more bandwidth, and all this will be happening while the remote worker may be accessing multiple cloud-based application, external services, and perhaps also using high-definition video conferencing.

Business as usual

This is just business as usual in many organizations today and it’s why they are increasingly running at 1Gbps or higher bandwidths right across the network. Of course, if someone is working at home that capacity will need to be matched across the broadband or external connection, and also at the endpoint.

While Zyxel Networks can’t provide the connectivity to link the central office with the working-from-home exec, what we can provide is a router that will prevent that remote connection becoming a bottleneck. Not only that, but we can also provide added security, really good WiFi, and remote management as well.

A safe option

All this is available on our USG LITE 60AX router that comes with two multi-gig ports, which can run at 1Gbps or 2.5Gbps, giving you plenty of room to run multiple applications and services at high speeds, without any degradation. The additional built-in security features make it even safer, while the fast WiFi 6 support means users have freedom to move at home. And as it’s managed through our Nebula cloud management platform, admins or MSPs can monitor and control settings from the center.

For organizations that have many remote workers who need connections that are not only fast, but also extremely secure, it’s an ideal solution. If you’d like to find out more, please contact us or get in touch with your nearest Zyxel Networks partner.
