Sip Smart, Stack High: Zyxel's BYO campaign cuts 1,100+ paper cups

As global sustainability efforts grow, worldwide organizations like Less Plastic UK and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) are supporting the Bring Your Own (BYO) movement to reduce single-use items. In response, Zyxel Group teamed up with our in-house café to promote the use of mugs instead of disposable cups for their coffee. Within two months, we reduced over 1,100 paper cups–enough to stack higher than the Statue of Liberty (93 meters) or Big Ben (96 meters), reaching 99 meters in total.

In Zyxel’s Sip Smart campaign, employees who brought their coffee cups to the café earned one sustainability point. These points could be exchanged for limited-edition prizes, such as Velcro cable ties (15 points), wool felt tote bags (35 points), or thermo travel mugs (50 points). Through these rewards, we encouraged employees to use reusable mugs and reduce disposable cup waste.

At Zyxel, sustainability isn't just a goal—it's our commitment. Even though the campaign has ended, the impact continues. This meaningful campaign helped employees develop the habit of using reusable cups wherever they grab coffee, whether at the office or on the go.
