ZyXEL's New Corporate WLAN Solution Delivers Excellent Manageability, Security

Hsinchu, March 16, 2004 -- ZyXEL Communications (TSE:2391), world's leading broadband access solutions provider, today unveils its comprehensive WLAN solutions for small business. These solutions offer complete lineups for indoors/outdoors deployment, as well as built-in network management system and rock-solid security that enable businesses to implement proficient wireless network while enjoying high-level protection.

ZyXEL's corporate-level WLAN solution comprises IEEE 802.11b & 11g ZyAIR B-3000/G-3000 access points that feature the latest WPA, IEEE 802.1X user authentication, and WEP encryption to ensure secure WLAN access and data exchange. In the meantime, the Wireless Distribution System (WDS) in the ZyXEL ZyAIR access points provides Bridge and Repeater functions that enable several access points to form an Enterprise Wireless Cloud, which extends the secured WLAN coverage within or between "WLAN-challenged" buildings.

The ZyXEL ZyAIR B-5000 can act as a Bridge, in addition to performing the basic access point function outdoors, to construct the wireless network between outdoor access points and users, or between different buildings. The robust enclosure of ZyAIR B-5000 is considerate for withstanding extreme temperature and humidity outdoors, even during lightning strike.

Backing up the access points, ZyXEL introduces an innovative "Centralized WLAN Control" scheme and product -- Vantage Wireless LAN Controller 200 (Vantage WLC 200), a complete management and security mechanism over the network. Inheriting the technology from ZyXEL Vantage CNM, ZyXEL Vantage WLC allows the administrators to manage the configuration, status, and user activities on ZyAIR devices remotely. They can also set the WLAN access control policy accordingly, using the wireless user database for centralized authentication and authorization to define the domain access rights for users and groups.

Through the special protocol between Vantage WLC and ZyAIR access points, administrators can configure the load-balancing among the access points, fine tune the coverage of each access point, and even detect the "rogue access points" manually or automatically to assure the security of the corporate WLAN. Besides, Vantage WLC offers intuitive logging and reporting features for administrators' convenience.

Wide-ranging accessories are provided by ZyXEL for network construction; such as single-port or multi-port Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) Adaptors for eliminating most power outlet needs and allow more freedom for choosing spots; and the versatile ZyAIR EXT high-gain antennae improves the signal coverage and quality for users to better share the resources on the network.

Availability
ZyXEL will announce its new WLAN solutions at ZyXEL's booth (Hall 15 D05) in Hannover CeBIT taking place in March 18-24 2004. The solutions include ZyAIR 3000/5000 Series IEEE 802.11b/802.11g Bridge/Router and access points, Vantage WLC 200 centralized WLAN controller, and versatile WLAN adapters and high-gain antennae.
