ZyXEL Ships Its New Broadband Access Security Gateway

New Prestige 312 Provides Robust Security, Reliability, and Best Price Performance for Fast Ethernet Networks

Hsinchu, Taiwan, June 30, 2000 - ZyXEL Communications Co. (TAI:2391.TW), a leading innovator and provider of integrated DSL solutions, today announced the immediate availability of its new Prestige 312, the dual Ethernet broadband access security gateway for home offices and small businesses. Integrated with a stateful inspection Firewall and network management features, the Prestige 312 provides a complete security solution to protect the offices' Intranet and efficiently manage data traffic on the network.

The Prestige 312 is an ideal solution for sharing broadband Internet access while providing maximum network security. A 10Mbps Ethernet interface allows installation of an ADSL or cable modem, and GUI installation wizard simplifies initial installation and configuration. The Prestige's integrated PPPoE support provides users with a familiar dial-up networking interface, and it allows the ISP to use the existing dial-up infrastructure to authenticate and provide differentiate services.

Furthermore, ZyNOS's stateful inspection firewall allows the Prestige 312 to act as a secure gateway between the Internet and the LAN preventing theft, destruction, and modification of data and log events. The Prestige Firewall also allows IPSec VPN traffic to pass through NAT, which allows businesses to provide secure network links for all offices, partners, and remote telecommuters.

Prestige 312's MultiNAT technology supports Many-to-Many, Many -to-One, and One-to-One address mapping. It can handle up to 256 connections from unlimited local IP addresses sharing legal IP addresses assigned either statically or dynamically by the ISP. Network administrators can flexibly designate fixed IPs for Web, FTP, etc. servers behind the Prestige that need to be accessible to the outside world, while allowing an unlimited number of LAN users to access the Internet simultaneously with one or more legal IP addresses. ZyXEL's NAT supports popular Internet applications such as NetMeeting, CUSeeMe, ICQ, RealPlayer, Quake and PPTP with no extra configuration needed.

The Prestige 312's Packet filtering capabilities allows businesses to establish access policies according to the needs of the network. The administrator can accept or restrict access based on the pre-defined source/destination of the IP address or type of application.

With Prestige 312's stateful inspection, fields of packets are compared to packets that are already known to be trusted. Stateful inspection protects the private LAN from hackers and vandals on the Internet. The Prestige 312 also support TCP/UDP inspection, real time alerts, reports and logs.

Denial of Service (DoS) attacks disable devices and networks so that users no longer have access to network resources. The Prestige 312 is pre-configured to automatically detect and thwart DoS attacks.
