ZyXEL Prestige 641- ADSL Router Certified for Interoperability by Lucent Technologies
Placentia, CA - September 21, 1999- Placentia, CA--ZyXEL Communications, Inc. has announced that it has joined Lucent Technologies' new Wired for DSL Partnership Program. Under the program, ZyXEL's Prestige 641 Router has been tested and certified for interoperability with Lucent's new DSL access concentrator (DSLAM), StingerO, ensuring compatibility between the products for service providers deploying Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) services.
Prestige 641 features a built-in ADSL modem and is specifically designed to be a cost-effective high-speed/high-bandwidth solution for easy Internet access. The product is ideal for the SOHO (small office/home office) market because of its faster downloading speeds.
Lucent Wired for DSL Partnership Program Under its new Wired for DSL partner program, Lucent will partner with leading vendors of DSL equipment, such as ZyXEL, to provide end-to-end, multi-vendor solutions to its service provider customers. To gain certification, the ZyXEL Prestige 641 had to successfully demonstrate the required level of interoperability with Lucent's industry leading DSL products.
Fast, Multi-featured Product
The Prestige 641 is more than 140 times faster than the typical 56K dial-up modem that is used in many SOHO and telecommuting operations. It has an adaptive data-transfer rate of up to 8.0Mbps downstream and up to 640Kbps upstream. Its auto-negotiation rate adaptation feature ensures ease of use, as it allows the modem to automatically adapt to whatever ADSL line settings are being used.
The unit features special Single User Account (SUA)/Network Address Translation (NAT) technology, which enables multiple workstations on a LAN to access the Internet for the cost of only one Internet Service Provider (ISP) account.
Effective with different bandwidth requirements, the Prestige 641's 10/100MB auto-negotiation LAN connector protects the user's current 10baseT equipment investment while supporting fast Ethernet speeds of up to 10/100MB. To support its high-speed capability, the unit follows the Discrete Multi-tone (DMT) industry standard. Included in the unit is ZyXEL's proprietary Java-based Prestige Network Commander software (PNC), which assures easy installation, configuration, and filter setup. Additionally, the company's proprietary ZyNOS network operating system enables the Prestige 641 to support IP protocol routing, Network Address Translation (NAT), Port Address Translation (PAT), LAN resource sharing, and network management and diagnostics.
ZyXEL has also designed the Prestige 641 to be compatible with the forthcoming G.lite standard. This will save users money, as it will allow voice and data services to share a single phone line without the need of an external voice splitter. The unit is available through ZyXEL's extensive network of distributors and value-added resellers. It has a list price of $699 (US) and is backed by a two-year limited warranty.
