Hsinchu; April 14, 2005 -- ZyXEL Communications (TSE:2391), world's leading broadband access solutions provider, today announces its advanced ZyXEL ES-4024A Layer 3+ intelligent managed switch. The new ES-4024A supports several enterprise-level intelligent switching and routing functionalities; such as high-performance QoS bandwidth management, strict network access control policy and High Availability (HA), offering a premium choice as an intelligent access layer switch for enterprise wiring closets, or as a Layer 3+ core switch for smaller enterprise networks.

With 1U-height for 19-inch chassis installation, ZyXEL ES-4024A features 24 10/100Mbps RJ-45 ports and 4 GbE uplink ports, including two 1000Mbps RJ-45 ports or two open SFP (Small Form-factor Pluggable) standard slots, as well as an optional dual-port GbE stacking module fitted on the back panel. It is capable of generating 12.8Gbps non-blocking throughput in addition to the wirespeed Layer-3+ switching performance.

With hardware-based IP routing engine and the sophisticated multilayer operating software, the ES-4024A delivers high-performance Layer 3+ dynamic IP routing functions like OSPF V2 and RIP V1/V2. In addition to dynamic IP unicast or multicast, the ES-4024A supports DVMRP (Distance Vector Multicast Routing Protocol) and IGMP (Internet Group Management Protocol) snooping to handle a variety of datagrams perfectly, making it ideal for today's multi-service network environment. In response to the today's complicated business networks, ES-4024A also supports VRRP (Virtual Redundant Routing protocol) to offer routing redundancy and load balancing for even higher availability.

ZyXEL ES-4024A has been loaded with powerful traffic management and QoS features. For instance, ES-4024A provides 8 priority queues per port for different types of traffics, allowing administrators to set policies for classed filtering and rule-based rate limitation. ES-4024A can prioritize applications with WFQ (Weighted Fair Queuing) scheduling algorithm to allocate more bandwidth to key traffics such as voice transmission, empowering the enterprise to take full advantages of the limited network resources and guarantee the best performance.

In the mean time, ZyXEL ES-4024A offers comprehensive Access Control List (ACL) for enforcing security to the edge. Its protection mechanisms include per-port MAC filtering, limited per-port MAC number, up to 4K 802.1Q dynamic VLAN, port-based 802.1x user and device authentication and TCP/UDP Socket filtering to control the network services accessible to employees. Through these solid mechanisms, administrators will be able to construct highly secured corporate network with significantly less time.

The intelligent ZyXEL ES-4024A demonstrates its power with advanced management capabilities; such as the ZyXEL-exclusive iStacking(TM) clustering management technology that attempts to locate other iStacking-capable switches in the same domain, and it allows administrators to manage 24 switches with one single IP. IT staff can opt for Web or Telnet interface to suit their convenience, and even encrypt their instructions with SSHv1/v2 and SSL/TLS.

To enhance network availability and reliability, ZyXEL ES-4024A supports external ZyXEL BPS-120 Backup Power System for power redundancy to eliminate network outage caused by single power failure on the switch.
