ZyXEL Introduces Dimension Line of Layer 2 Switches

New Dimension ES-1016/1024 Targets Workgroups with Market-Leading Performance and Powerful Switching Capabilities

Hsinchu, Taiwan, January 9, 2003 -- ZyXEL Communications Co. (TAI:2391.TW), world's leading broadband access solutions vendor, today launched its Dimension family of rackmount Ethernet switches for workgroups, departments and backbone computing environments.

As the first two products in ZyXEL Dimension series, the ES-1016 and ES-1024 provide users with 16 and 24 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet ports to build high-performance switched workgroup networks. Plug-n-play usability, outstanding price-to-performance ratio, and flexible designs make the ES-1016 and ES-1024 simple and affordable solutions for a wide range of workgroup applications.

The ES-1016 and ES-1024 provide auto-sensing 10/100 Mbps switching capabilities on each port, which automatically detects the speed and duplex mode of attached networking devices then adjusting itself for optimal performance, making installation fast and easy.

In addition, auto-MDI/MDI-X feature automatically detect either MDI/MDIX cable type through any of the Ethernet ports, thus eliminates the need for crossover cables or uplink ports.

The Dimension ES-1016 and the ES-1024 support IEEE 802.3, 802.3u, and 802.3x Flow Control standards, which specify 10Base-T and 100Base-TX Ethernet technologies. With Flow Control mechanism, both the ES-1016 and the ES-1024 effectively prevent traffic congestion by sending out collision signals when the switches detect the port's receiving buffer is nearly full under heavy traffic congestion. Flow Control allows 200 Mbps full duplex connections between servers and switches with zero data transfer loss.
