ZyXEL Introduces Broadband Internet Access Router allows SOHO Users to Connect to

Hsinchu, June 25, 1999 - ZyXEL Communications Corp., the leader in Internet Access Solutions, today announced its new broadband solution, the Prestige 310, which is designed to enable small and home office users to access the Internet with today's broadband cable modems.

Flexible Features and Design
The Prestige 310 broadband access router is an ideal solution for small sized offices which desire high-performance Internet access. Featuring the 10/100Mbps Ethernet interface, the Prestige 310 provides a high performance LAN environment for SOHO users while the 10Mbps WAN port allows installation of today's most popular cable modem. This flexibility provides investment protection, allowing easy and inexpensive upgrades as bandwidth needs increase.

"This innovative product enables office users to take advantage of the most advanced cable modems," said Daniel Liu, Assistant Vice President of Sales & Marketing Division at ZyXEL. "By connecting the full-featured and easy-to-use Prestige 310, LAN users enjoy increased speed and performance without needing technical support from IS engineers. "

Broadband Internet Access
ZyXEL's innovative Single User Account (SUA) is the industry's first implementation of Network Address Translation (NAT). Prestige 310's multiple SUA technology permits unlimited LAN users to access the Internet simultaneously with one single IP address, and supports applications such as CUSeeMe, IRC, and RealAudio. While accessing the Internet via SUA, Prestige 310 also supports Microsoft PPTP (Point to Point Tunneling Protocol) which enables the remote users accessing central office network through a virtual private tunnel over the shared network.

Ease of installation and Management
The Prestige 310 supports a range of network management and ease of installation tools. ZyXEL's Windows-based configurator simplifies initial installation and configuration. Using a menu-driven user interface, the Prestige 310 can be managed either locally or remotely via a Telnet connection.

The ability to act both as a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server and DHCP client enables the Prestige 310 to automatically assign IP addresses to client stations logging onto a TCP/IP network, or get IP addresses from a DHCP server in a remote site (such as an ISP) as well. The built-in Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) server enables advanced users and systems administrators to download firmware updates and configuration backup or restoration. In addition, packet filtering provides office users with increased Internet security by controlling access to and from a network.

Availability
Available now, the Prestige 310 can be purchased through ZyXEL's authorized regional distributors. A listing of ZyXEL's worldwide channel partners can be found on company's Web site at http://www.zyxel.com/
