ZyXEL Announces ZyXEL P-2302R VoIP Station Gateway for Internet Access and Phone Communication at Home

Hsinchu, February 21, 2004--ZyXEL Communications (TSE:2391), the world's largest DSL router provider (Gartner, July 2004), today announced its new ZyXEL P-2302R VoIP Station Gateway designed for telcos and IP telephony service providers (ITSP). Integrated high-speed broadband sharing gateway and two POTS ports for Voice over IP, the P-2302R allows home users to share broadband resources while fulfilling VoIP application demands through the existing DSL/Cable modem at the same time.

"As VoIP technology ripens, it has evolved from a cost-saving alternative to a value-added solution." Says Albert Ju, assistant VP of ZyXEL's CPE Product Business Unit. "Deploying ZyXEL P-2302R does not affect the existing DSL infrastructure, and aside from offering an affordable replacement to long-distance calls, ITSPs can generate more revenue and same time ensuring future service extensions and upgrades."

The ZyXEL P-2302R supports open SIP (Session Initiation Protocol, RFC 3261) multimedia protocol to ensure interoperability with other SIP-based equipments; and its exclusive Auto-provisioning functionality, a mechanism allowing service providers to manage and configure P-2302R remotely, significantly decrease the installation costs as well. In addition, ZyXEL P-2302R's highly flexible VoIP platform features Multiple SIP and voice channels for convenient design and deployment of VoIP services.

The ZyXEL P-2302R features two 10M/100M Ethernet ports, and reserved two POTS phone interfaces for VoIP conversations while surfing the Internet. As each phone jack works independently, the P-2302R doubles the existing phone line without extra charge.
