ZyXEL Announces World's First ATM-based DMT VDSL Gateway to Support Triple Play

Prestige 861 slated to debut in Hannover CeBIT 2004 with DSLAM vendors

(Hsinchu, March 10, 2004, 8:00 a.m.) ZyXEL Communications (TSE:2391), world's leading broadband access solutions provider, today announces Prestige 861, the first ATM-based DMT (Discrete Multi-Tone) VDSL gateway to support "Triple Play" (simultaneous image, voice, and data transfer) multimedia services. With its successful completion of the interoperable tests with the world's major VDSL DSLAM vendors, Prestige 861 will be showcased in Hannover CeBIT in these companies' booths.

As Prestige 861 complies with the new DMT standard, its modulation function can dynamically adapt the bit rate to conditions on the local loop, and offer excellent performance even over noisy lines; thus alleviates network administrators from manually testing lines and from constantly adjusting equipment to noise conditions while preserving excellent data quality.

Moreover, Prestige 861 supports both Band Plan 998 and 997 that offer symmetrical or asymmetrical transfer of up to 52MBps download and 26Mbps upload throughput. Since Prestige 861 is "Triple Play-ready", it enables the deployment of multimedia services, such as digital video streams and voice services, by telecom operators within the same copper cable binder groups for both residential and commercial users.

As real-time, high-quality multimedia services become imperative, Prestige 861 takes full advantage of the ATM infrastructure with QoS function that assigns various bandwidth and priorities to different real-time applications. For instance, Prestige 861 gives higher priority to channel selection and VoIP applications for swift response and better voice quality.

Availability
Prestige 861 will make its debut at ZyXEL's booth (Hall 15 D05) in Hannover CeBIT taking place in March 18-24 2004; and it has been scheduled to deliver in May through ZyXEL's global sales offices and authorized distributors.
