ZyXEL Announces GS-3012/GS-3012F 12-Port Layer 2 Managed Gigabit Ethernet/ Gigabit Fiber Ethernet Switch Offering Higher Network Efficiency and Better QoS

Hsinchu, August 19, 2004-- ZyXEL Communications (TSE:2391), world's leading broadband access solutions provider, today announces two advanced models of Layer 2 Gigabit managed switch -- ZyXEL Dimension GS-3012 and GS-3012F. With the high availability, expandability, delicate Quality of Service (QoS) and robust security mechanism, GS-3012/3012F are excellent solutions for building business or campus high-speed backbone, or applications with sophisticated QoS and traffic management capability required by ISPs or telcos.

ZyXEL Dimension GS-3012 and GS-3012F feature 1U-height, 19-inch rack-mount form factor. GS-3012 comes with twelve 100/1000 RJ-45 ports and four mini-GBIC Ethernet ports, while GS-3012F sports twelve mini-GBIC ports and four 100/1000 RJ-45 ports, offering up to 24Gbps non-blocking fabric and 17.8-million packet-per-second forwarding rate. For better fault-tolerance capability under unexpected conditions, GS-3012/GS-3012 support external ZyXEL BPS (Backup Power System) for redundant power supplies.

To satisfy the need of ever-growing online media applications, ZyXEL Dimension GS-3012/GS-3012F provides powerful traffic management such as WFQ (Weighted Fair Queue) and traffic shaping to guarantee the QoS.

On network security, ZyXEL Dimension GS-3012/GS-3012F employ Access Control List (ACL) to block unauthorized users from accessing sensitive files or information, as well as port-based 802.1x user and device authentication to prevent illegal use of network resources. The work load of administrators can also be relieved by configuring GS-3012/GS-3012F to grant only designated MAC addresses the access privileges, in order to keep irrelevant intranet users from connecting to the restricted material.

ZyXEL Dimension GS-3012/GS-3012F supports ZyXEL's iStacking(tm) clustered administration technology that enables them to search and connect to other iStacking-capable ZyXEL switches. This approach allows administrators to easily manage up to 24 switches with just one IP. Moreover, GS-3012/GS-3012F also support advanced Layer 2 technologies such as VLAN, GVRP, IGMP and RSTP for better network stability, reliability, as well as higher efficiency.
