ZyXEL Announces 54Mbps ZyAIR 802.11g and 802.11a+g Product Lines

Hannover, March 12, 2003 -- ZyXEL Communications Co., (TAI: 2391.TW) one of the world's leading broadband access solutions vendors, today announced its 54Mbps Wireless LAN (WLAN) product line, the ZyAIR-G and ZyAIR-AG Series.

Designed for homes, small- and medium-sized businesses and hot spots, the ZyAIR-G and ZyAIR-AG series is based on the 802.11g draft specification and 802.11a standard, providing transmission rates of up to 54Mbps. ZyXEL's ZyAIR-G includes a WLAN router with a 4-port switch, model ZyAIR G-2000, an Access Point, model G-1000, and a Cardbus PC card, model G-100. The ZyAIR-AG Dual Band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) series includes an Access Point, model AG-3000, and a Cardbus PC card, model AG-100. These new products will be formally launched at ZyXEL's booth (Hall 15 D38) at CeBIT 2003 in Hannover.

"As the need for greater bandwidth and higher transmission speeds increases due to applications such as online multimedia and video streaming, there is rapid growth in the migration of 802.11b to 802.11g," said Felix Chang, Product Marketing Director of ZyXEL's CPE Business Unit. "ZyAIR-G not only provides transmission speeds as high as 54Mbps, more than five times faster than the current speed 802.11b/11Mbps, but is also backward compatible with current 802.11b wireless network and devices. Therefore, ZyAIR-G provides the best value that consumers can wish for."

Moreover, the ZyAIR-AG Dual Band product line not only enables 802.11b users to upgrade their wireless networking to 802.11g, but it is also both backward and forward compatible with 802.11a-standard wireless networking devices, ensuring users' return of investment.

With respect to network security, ZyAIR-G and ZyAIR-AG support WEP and IEEE 802.1x (EAP-MD5, EAP-TLS, EAP-TTLS, PEAP) through a secure authentication system, thus effectively managing the access that users have to Wireless LANs. In the future, ZyAIR will also deliver the next-generation security standard with the deployment of Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) and SSL Proxy. In addition, Wireless Distribution System (WDS) enables a ZyAIR Access Point and router to serve as a bridge or repeater.

Availability
ZyAIR-G and ZyAIR-AG are scheduled to be available in the second quarter of the year through ZyXEL's global network of authorized distributors.
