High-speed WiFi Takes Boarding School Dorm by Storm in Slovakia

The wireless network in the Boarding School in Zvolen was showing its age. Its dorms lacked infrastructure to connect and power access points, and the outdated equipment hindered the study and leisure of students in both their rooms and common areas. To replace the infrastructure, new structured cabling was required to connect several dozen APs. Moreover, the school had another criterion: maximizing the price-to-cost ratio performance. Designed with optimized RF performance, the NWA1123-ACv2 AP was selected for its ability to deliver gigabit connectivity and wider coverage to each client. Besides, the PoE access point can be powered via Ethernet cable and controlled by the GS1920-48HPv2 Smart Managed PoE Switches, ideal for connecting a large number of powered devices. The switch has a capacity of up to 30 W per port, with total PoE power consumption up to 375W – ensuring stable power supply and network connectivity to the APs as well as IP cameras, phones, and similar devices. In addition to ticking all these boxes, Zyxel’s Nebula solution was adopted because it also allows for remote network monitoring and management. The new network provides enough capacity to connect hundreds of endpoints and supports real-time network monitoring and management from anywhere through the cloud. With the new infrastructure in place, the students are now enjoying hassle-free and high-speed WiFi from every part of the dormitory.

A quality internet connection is essential for study and for leisure activities. I'm glad our students finally have a reliable wireless network that can handle this. Building this new network infrastructure was demanding, but we now have the technology to meet our students’ demands for many years to come.

With the help of Zyxel, we’ve managed to ensure reliable, high-speed WiFi coverage across the dorm areas. In doing so, we have achieved our budget and price-to-performance ratio goals by using Zyxel’s high-performance 802.11ac access points.
