Zyxel’s VES1616FT-54/VES1624FT-54 is a 16/24-port VDSL2 aggregator based on Discrete Multi-Tone (DMT) modulation and the latest Ethernet technologies; it aggregates traffics from Zyxel DMT-based VDSL CPE and complies with the VDSL2 G993.2 standard.

The VES1616FT-54/VES1624FT-54 multiplexes data traffics into two 100/1000 Base-T uplinks/downlinks (2 SFP combo) that connect to any third-party Ethernet switch, WAN router or VDSL Switch cascade, while the built-in POTS splitter splits and sends voice traffics to the PSTN. The VES1616FT-54/VES1624FT-54 supports VDSL2 downstream speeds of up to 100 Mbps and VDSL2 upstream speeds of up to 50 Mbps.

The VES1616FT-54/VES1624FT-54 provides a rich set of features and ensures interoperability with equipments from other vendors. The features include IGMP snooping, Multicast VLAN Registration (MVR), broadcast storm control and MAC filtering. IGMP snooping and MVR are very useful features for VoD/MoD whereas MAC filtering enhances security and bandwidth utilization. DMT Modulation—Standard Compliance and Outstanding Performance

The Zyxel VES1616FT-54/VES1624FT-54 is a DMT (Discrete Multi-Tone)-based VDSL2 solution that dynamically adapts the bit rates to conditions on the local loop to offer excellent performance even on noisy lines. Network administrators are relieved from manually testing lines and constantly adjusting equipment to noise conditions. Both IEEE’s 802.3ah Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) Task Force and T1E1.4 Working Group selected DMT as its worldwide VDSL line-coding standard, as it complies with the G993.2 VDSL2 standard and QoS control is available on VDSL2 links.

Traffic Prioritization for Quality Services

Administrators can enable IGMP snooping to optimize service quality for IP multicasting applications. The VES1616FT-54/VES1624FT-54 provides this feature to prevent unnecessary forwarding of multicast traffic to all subscribers, and thus optimizes bandwidth utilization for bandwidth-consuming applications such as broadcast video. In addition, the Multicast VLAN Registration (MVR) feature checks all connected VLANs to see if they request the same video stream. Through this exclusive mechanism, the number of video streams can be reduced significantly and this provides more advantages to MoD environments, and QoS are supported on VDSL2 links.

Port Trunking Provides High Availability

The VES1616FT-54/VES1624FT-54 supports IEEE 802.3ad with load distribution control and fail over recovery capabilities that distribute traffics to each trunk port based on the source and destination MAC addresses to balance traffic loads.

Rate Limiting Allows Service Differentiation

The Zyxel VES1616FT-54/VES1624FT-54 provides Rate Limiting features that allow service providers to offer tiered services. Rate Limiting on subscriber ports allows services to have 64 Kbps increments.

The Zyxel VES1616FT-54/VES1624FT-54 comes with a rich set of tools to streamline your management effort. The Web-based management interface of the devices offers an easy-to-use platform, independent management features and configuration options. The VES1616FT-54/VES1624FT-54 supports SNMP and MIBs, both of which can be managed via standard-based management software.
