Upgrading WiFi – should I stay or should I go?

Should you switch to WiFi 7 – or WiFi 6/6E – to get the benefits of higher speed and more reliable performance? Or stick with what you have got, for now at least? The answer to this question is always dependent on the exact circumstances of each individual business.

If you’re a larger organisation you will certainly gain significantly by stepping up to WiFi 6/6E and possibly to WiFi 7. If you’re an SMB with a handful of users, these technologies will certainly give you a boost, but probably not one that will justify the investment – at least for the time being.

If you find yourself falling somewhere in between those extremes, it’s a harder call.

Whatever size of operation you have, the most significant factor is the customer experience. Right now, there are very few laptops and smartphones that can connect to WiFi 7. But that will soon change and as more WiFi 7-capable devices are purchased and used, the benefits of upgrading will multiply. Exactly when will that moment come?
