Why scalability matters when it comes to security

For managed service providers (MSPs) in particular, scalability is vital – especially when it comes to security. We saw this recently when one of our MSP partners needed to provide simple cybersecurity protection and VPN capability to connect point-of-sale systems for a large number of petrol stations. Other requirements were for a high-speed connection to other devices on some locations, and WiFi.

This was a major project and one that would require the deployment of hundreds of devices across a number of countries. We quickly identified that our USG LITE 60AX all-in-one router was the best possible fit for this requirement. It has all the functionality required – including two 2.5Gbps ports for local cabled connections, and WiFi 6, which is really ideal for a location where there are usually only a small number of users, but many others who come and go fairly quickly throughout the day.

Pre-defined security

Crucially, the USG LITE 60AX comes with excellent pre-defined security features, at no additional charge, which was the key requirement (you can also add enhanced security features by purchasing an Elite pack subscription). But the real killer in this user-case scenario was our Nebula cloud management capability. With Nebula, the appliances could be pre-configured prior to shipment and deployment. This meant that set-up could be done automatically as soon as the devices were connected at each remote location. And the MSP could monitor those connections and see how they were progressing.

The scalability of Nebula meant that it was easy for the partner to manage the deployment and provide a good and consistent level of protection across all the sites. It also made it easy to set up specific features. They could, for example, configure and activate VPN connections to the head office on hundreds of devices and activate them all at the same time. This saves time and money and makes the connections consistent and more secured.

More potential for partners

This is quite a serendipitous example, but also a good illustration of just how useful Nebula can be when it comes to providing scalable and manageable deployment and security.

There have been many other examples of where its unique capabilities – and that of the USG LITE 60AX – have proved to be exactly what the MSP and the end user needed. We expect there to be many more too.
