ZyXEL’s Fast Ethernet Switches Elevate User Experience
January 31st, 2013; Hsinchu, Taiwan – ZyXEL Communications, a world-class broadband networking company that provides IP-enabled wired and wireless broadband products and solutions for customers ranging from telecommunications service providers, small- and medium-sized businesses to home users, continues to broaden its desktop switching portfolio to meet different user demands. The succeeding ES-105A/ES-108A version-two (v.2) Desktop Fast Ethernet Switches are designed to allow prosumers (professional consumers) such as multimedia-demanding home users and SOHOs/small businesses to enjoy optimal, reliable networking performance for all devices connected to the Internet through the switch. Numerous green features also help users to save on both energy consumption and power bill.
The new 5-port/8-port Desktop Fast Ethernet Switches not only inherit all remarkable features of their predecessors but also incorporate a larger memory buffer for better transmission performance. The priority ports can be assigned to devices executing bandwidth-intensive applications such as IP phone for VoIP and game consoles as well as smart TVs for multimedia streaming, online gaming and Internet videos and movies to ensure optimized, prioritized transmission performance. For example, media servers with a considerable amount of HD contents can have a higher priority for better streaming performance for storing and playing multimedia files. With the enlarged memory buffer that doubles the size of the previous version, unclogged network transmission can be assured even when the data traffics through the switch is heavy. That is, the exceptional priority port design incorporates with the upgraded buffering mechanism allow higher quality of user experience (QoE).
The ES-105A/ES-108A v2 Fast Ethernet Switches also complies with the IEEE 802.3az EEE (Energy Efficient Ethernet), a mainstream energy-saving standard, to significantly decrease power consumption. The protocol enables network ports to switch swiftly between the higher power state and lower power state in response to the active or idle data flow status. Power consumption stays minimal when there is no active link. The effect can save a significant amount of power consumption since the utilization pattern of switches generally consists of long idle periods and a few traffic bursts at full capacity. One addition to the green effort is the automatic consumption detection according to the cable lengths: the shorter cables consume less power.
The Fast Ethernet Switch has a plug-and-play design for easy installation without need for manual configuration. The device can be either placed as a desktop or a wall-mount unit, giving users the flexibility on installation to match other connected devices.
