Addition of PoE support to USG FLEX H series gives SMBs more flexibility

One of the features that wasn’t really highlighted in the recent launch of the new USG FLEX H series of firewalls, was the addition of PoE ports to a number of models on the range.

This is a direct response to customers, who have been telling us that they’d love to have more options to attach PoE devices in different places on the network. Up to now, PoE has usually been delivered from a switch, but there’s no reason it can’t be provided through a firewall and with the new H series, that’s exactly what we’ve done.

The benefit for customers is greater flexibility. On a small network, there may not be that many physical devices and it could well turn out to be the firewall is located in the best place for a PoE-driven device to be connected to the network. By making PoE available on the USG FLEX H series, we’re giving SMBs this option. It will mean they don’t have to move network devices around to connect something with PoE or purchase a PoE extender or injector. It also means fewer points of failure and gives you the option of managing the device directly from that port.

In the overall context of all the new functionality we’ve provided with the USG FLEX H series, this may seem like a minor feature, but where it’s needed, it will be greatly beneficial. A lot of devices can be powered by PoE now and more of our customers are making use of the technology.
