Choices

Too many choices at entry level? How do you decide?

With the launch of our new USG FLEX H series firewalls, we’ve given SMB customers a bit of a dilemma. How do they choose between the extremely popular USG LITE 60AX – our all-in-one unified security router, and the entry level to the H series – the USG FLEX 50H. Both offer really good built-in security that is ideally suited to small businesses and serious home workers.

But while this might seem, at a glance, to be a difficult choice, the differences are really quite clear.

Simple to deploy and manage

The USG LITE 60AX is designed to be a simple to deploy and manage. It’s for smaller businesses for whom a dedicated security gateway has perhaps been out of reach in the past. It provides subscription-free protection against common cyberthreats such as ransomware and malware and you can set up a simple VPN too. And it can be managed with our Nebula cloud platform, so that makes life easier for admins and MSPs.

But, although you can adjust some settings, the security in the USG LITE 60AX is more or less ‘baked in’. We’ve done that to make the device really easy to manage. You might purchase this device if you have between five and 10 users.

Advanced features

The security features on the USG FLEX 50H are more advanced, there are more of them and they are more configurable. This entry-level model in the H series is designed for businesses that want really good network protection from all kinds of threats and attacks and may also need to configure the security to meet specific requirements. You have more control and visibility of security settings with the USG FLEX 50H.

We’d recommend businesses with upwards of 10 employees, and possibly with more than one location or a number of branches, consider the USG FLEX 50H or USG FLEX 50HP (the PoE model). Investing in an H series firewall will also give you more scalability and future investment protection.

As ever with such a choice, it really depends on your exact requirements, future plans and budget. If you need any further guidance on which of our unified security appliances is right for you, please contact us or get in touch with your nearest Zyxel Networks partner.
