In the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), an Object IDentifier (OID) is the name of a piece of SNMP data found in an SNMP agent's Management Information Base (MIB). The SNMP agent provides MIB data to the manager, which uses each datum's OID to identify and process it appropriately. OID names use the ASN.1 (Abstract Syntax Notation One) standard and are registered with IANA (the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority).
