Our commitment to net zero
With our cutting-edge technology, we are taking immediate actions to reduce our carbon footprint. Guided by science-based, measurable pathways, we are aligning our goals with those of our customers, committing ourselves to achieving net-zero emissions by 2040.
Leveraging the SBT (Science-Based Targets) carbon calculation platform, we are establishing annual carbon reduction targets that align with the goal of limiting global warming to within 1.5ºC.
Zyxel Communications commits to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 50% by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2040*, using 2021 as the base year.
* We plan to reach net-zero emissions in our own operations by 2040 and aim to extend this goal across our supply chain with the latest target set for by 2050.

Synergy across the value chain
In our environmental strategy, we've built a value chain with "responsible supply chains," "sustainable operations," and "product sustainability" as the cornerstones. Guided by this framework, we’ve established three strategic pillars: "supply chain carbon reduction," "climate mitigation and adaptation," and "low-carbon footprint products." These pillars direct our efforts in identifying climate-related risks and opportunities, setting reduction targets, and driving impactful initiatives.
Supply chain
Responsible suuply chain
Carbon reduction
- Setting carbon management targets for suppliers
- Requiring Carbon Footprint Verification (CFV), from suppliers
- Defining supplier carbon reduction plans
Governance
Sustainable operation
Climate mitigation and adaptation
- Aligning with international initiatives
- Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions management
- Energy usage management
- Transition to renewable energy
- Promote biodiversity
Customer
Product sustainability
Low-carbon footprint products
- Implementing product carbon footprint management to minimize environmental impact throughout the product life cycle
- Disclose the carbon footprint of products upon customer request
We align our strategic goals with sustainable operations by establishing short-, mid-, and long-term targets that align with international initiatives. These targets include reducing greenhouse gas emissions, managing energy efficiently, and promoting biodiversity, all aimed at fulfilling our commitment to achieving net zero by 2040.
Aligning with international initiatives
We are proactively engaging with international environmental initiatives such as SDGs, SBT, CDP, TCFD, and TNFD. Setting science-based goals, we are taking concrete actions to build resilience to climate risks and mitigate the growing threat of climate disasters on our business operations.
Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions management
Carbon Footprint Verification (CFV)
Zyxel Greenhouse Gas Inventory Report adheres to ISO 14064-1:2018 and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, using the operational control approach with 2021 as the baseline year.
Through proactive initiatives, we have achieved a year-on-year reduction in total greenhouse gas emissions. In 2023, our total emissions were 19,018.004 metric tons of CO2 equivalent. We have also obtained third-party verification in accordance with ISO 14064-1.
Energy management
We actively implement a comprehensive energy management strategy focused on improving energy efficiency, implementing intelligent energy management systems, replacing energy-intensive equipment, and increasing the use of renewable energy. These initiatives aim to minimize greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate environmental impact.
- Reduce electricity intensity by 20%
- Reduce electricity intensity by 21%
- Reduce electricity intensity by 27%
- Complete the intelligent energy management platform
- Replace and upgrade energy-intensive equipment
- Install solar power generation systems
- Complete the installation of solar power generation systems
- Increase renewable energy usage to 7% of total power consumption

Protecting biodiversity
Biodiversity is a vital cornerstone for maintaining ecological balance in natural environments. Using the risk assessment tool developed by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), we regularly evaluate biodiversity risks across our global operational sites and supply chain locations. These evaluations enable us to proactively identify risks and take proactive measures to conserve biodiversity and protect forests.
Aligned with international frameworks, we aim to complete the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) report by 2024 and make it publicly accessible on our website, reinforcing our commitment to transparent ecological sustainability.
