Home Networking Tips

Question:
How can I boost the security of my home wireless network?

Answer:
By default, a wireless access point (AP) or router will typically broadcast its SSID (wireless network name) at a regular interval. SSID broadcasting is the easiest way to enable wireless devices within the signal coverage area to join the network. However, this also means that unauthorized wireless devices within range can receive the SSID and attempt to access the network.

ZyXEL's wireless APs and routers allow users to turn off SSID broadcasting for increased security. This setting is known as "Hide SSID". Since trusted wireless clients should have profiles already configured to recognize the wireless network's SSID and automatically establish connections, you can consider turning on the "Hide SSID" feature to enhance your network's security.
