A ring cadence is a ring tone. Different ring cadences can be used to differentiate different types of incoming phone calls. POTS phones switch the high voltage ring signal on and off in order to create different ring cadences. For example, you could define a ring cadence for international calls with 800 milliseconds of ringing followed by 100 milliseconds of silence and define a ring cadence for local calls with 400 milliseconds of ringing followed by 200 milliseconds of silence.
