A PON (Passive Optical Network) uses optical fiber cables to the curb (FTTC), building (FTTB) or home (FTTH). "Passive" means that no power is required on an intermediary device on the network as the signals are going through the cables. A PON consists of one or more OLTs at the central office and ONUs at the end points. See also ONU and OLT.
