Swiss telecom OCOM AG recently partnered with ZyXEL valued business partner Studerus to redesign the wired and wireless network covering the Alpine ski resort of Aletsch Arena, located nearly 3,000 meters above sea level. This network, hidden from the eyes of visitors, connects various ski and hiking areas with related services and systems, such as train control, information systems, IP cameras, weather stations, SKIDATA terminals, and snowmaking equipment. The existing network had been pieced together over the years and needed to be streamlined and modernized with a backbone that could accommodate scaling up to 10GB. The new network solution would make every area self-sufficient and expandable. It was not a simple task, but with the help of local partners and ZyXEL products and solutions, a secure, efficient and future-proofed recreational environment could be assured.
