InterDSL 2000 and 3000 Use Single Pair Phone Line to Support T1/E1 Speed for Data, Voice and Video Applications
March 19, 1998

HANNOVER, Germany, March 19, 1998 - ZyXEL Communications Corp. of Hsinchu, Taiwan, today introduced its new HDSL-2 (high-bit-rate) modem solutions which deliver up to full T1 (1.544Mbps) / E1 (2.04Mbps) transmission speed over a single pair copper telephone line. The new ZyXEL InterDSL series improves the conventional HDSL modem by using single pair of phone wire instead of two pairs. The ZyXEL InterDSL series is designed for users seeking to replace more expensive T1/E1 services, communicate via LAN-to-LAN internetworking and transmit digital video services.

The ZyXEL InterDSL product line includes InterDSL 2000 desktop modem and InterDSL 3000 16-port HDSL-2 modem rack system. The InterDSL series provides full duplex and symmetrical transmission which exceeds 12,000 feet over 26 AWG lines and up to 20,000 feet in mixed gauge environments. By provisioning G.703, DSX-1 and V.35 technology, the InterDSL series can enable several adaptive access solutions for the appropriate function and need.

"As xDSL technologies continue to set the standard for faster transmission, ZyXELs new InterDSL series provides users with a way to exploit the full potential of the existing communications infrastructure," said Tony Hsu, international marketing manager at ZyXEL. "HDSL is already the most mature and proven xDSL technology available today. By leveraging broadband modulation technology built into HSDL-2, ZyXELs InterDSL series represent one of the first implementations of this fast transmission technology for broadband communications."

Easy Management
Like other ZyXEL remote access devices, the InterDSL series is easy to install and use and is fully manageable. LCD displays and three menu keys on front panel of InterDSL 2000 desktop product are provided for simple operation. The InterDSL series also offers both performance monitoring and alarm management, in addition to diagnostics, for effective network management and control.

HDSL: A Proven and Pervasive Technology
HDSL is considered to be the most mature xDSL technology available today. HDSL technology also offers signal quality that is comparable to fiber optic links. Telephone companies have installed more than half-million HDSL lines, primarily to provision T1/E1 lines. HDSL technology is already used by numerous service providers and network administrators who typically support campus wide internetworking environments, which require interference-free high-speed access to network services and the Internet.

Availability
The ZyXEL InterDSL 2000 and 3000 are scheduled to ship in May 1998.
