New Prestige 645 Series Provides Broad Interoperability, Cost Competitive and Compact Solution for Consumers and Businesses

Hsinchu, Taiwan, August 14, 2001 - ZyXEL Communications Co. (TAI:2391.TW), a pioneer and leading provider of broadband access solutions, today announced immediate availability of its new additions to the Prestige family of ADSL solutions. The new Prestige 645R ADSL router and Prestige 645M ADSL modem, both standards-based and multi-vendor interoperable certified, provide cost-competitive, compact and easy-to-use ADSL solutions for home and office users.

Fastest and Easiest Solution for High Speed Internet Access
The Prestige 645 series modem and router support auto-sensing between Full-rate and G.Lite standards according to Central Office switch or DSLAM. Users can enjoy ultra-fast transmission speeds of up to 8Mbps or 1.5Mbps respectively, as well as ease of upgradability from a G.Lite service to a Full-Rate service or vice versa.

The Prestige 645R ADSL router includes comprehensive routing features, including IP/IPX routing, IP Alias, DHCP server and client support, IP Policy Routing, and IGMP for IP multicast. Its NAT (Network Address Translation) also enables multiple LAN users subscribing a single IP accessing to a whole new range of networked services - including group videoconferencing, on-line streaming multimedia and multi-user interactive gaming.

Ease of installation and Configuration
To minimize training and support costs, ZyXEL's ADSL products have been designed to be uniquely easy to install, use and service. The new Prestige 645 series provides a pre-configuration capabilities and simple installation procedure, allowing service providers to reduce installation time at the consumer residence or business.

Furthermore, ZyXEL's new PPPoE innovation eliminates the pre-installation requirement of PPPoE software or Microsoft Virtual Network Software. This also greatly reduces the time of installing PPPoE software in different platform computers.

With ZyXEL's new Web-based graphical interface, the Prestige Network Configurator, all functions of the Prestige will be software configurable via a user-friendly Web browser.

Complete Protocol Encapsulation Support
The new Prestige 645 series also supports complete protocol encapsulation, including Transparent Bridging, PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE, RFC 2516), Multiple Protocol over ATM (RFC 1483) and PPP over ATM AAL5 (RFC 2364). These permit compatibility with the majority of remote access servers and service offering worldwide.

Multi-Vendor Interoperablity
ZyXEL Prestige 645 series is compatible with the major ADSL DSLAM providers such as Alcatel, Lucent, Siemens and Nokia.
