Our Low Carbon Footprint

As green house gases (GHG) continue to raise global temperatures and adversely affect the global climate, the importance of ISO14064 standards for control of corporate GHG emissions, as established in the 1997 Kyoto Protocol, is increasingly significant. By voluntarily controlling and reducing our “carbon footprint”, ZyXEL aims to fulfill what we believe to be a basic corporate responsibility, with an eye towards benefiting society as a whole.

A "carbon footprint" is a "measure of the impact human activities have on the environment in terms of the amount of greenhouse gases produced, measured in units of carbon dioxide". It is meant to be useful for individuals and organizations to conceptualize their personal (or organizational) impact in contributing to global warming. In response to the momentum surrounding the ‘carbon footprint' issue, ZyXEL is now aggressively establishing CO2 control and evaluation systems in the entire lifecycles of all company products.

Our carbon emission calculation of our products including each stage of a product’s lifecycle from raw material, manufacturing, delivering, consumer usage, discarding, and then to recycling. We have developed a complete "Coordinated Information System" that makes carbon emission investigation and management highly practical and remarkably efficient. Through use of the "Coordinated Information System", "Green Product Database", "Life Cycle Analysis System", "3R and Disassembly Report Database" and "Restriction of Hazardous Substances Management System", we aggressively control our environmental impact, for the entire lifecycle, of all our products, by continuing and strengthening our commitment and responsibility as a corporate citizen by developing less toxic, waste-reducing, easily recyclable and energy-efficient products.

By learning the true numbers through viewing the carbon footprint calculations, the consumer will thoroughly understand the environmental impact they are causing, by using the electronic products and comprehend their responsibility in helping to reduce the carbon footprint.

Among the First to be Granted a Carbon Footprint Label in Taiwan

In 2010, Taiwan government Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) announced the carbon footprint labeling system to help businesses gear themselves up to the global trend of making products greener and of helping to mitigate global warming. ZyXEL Wireless ADSL2+ Router has been granted a carbon footprint label in Taiwan. ZyXEL is among the first group of Taiwan companies to achieve this distinction, and is also the first networking equipment maker to receive this honor.

PAS2050 - World’s First Carbon Footprint Verification on VDSL2 CPE Product

A carbon footprint verification on ZyXEL’s VDSL2 CPE has been achieved and certified, according to the International Carbon Footprint Standard PAS2050 in 2010. By succeeding in earning this third party verification by BSI (British Standards Institution), the certified device is the world’s first VDSL2 CPE to achieve this carbon footprint verification. It is a critical milestone for carbon footprint management of networking products.
